"Are you an artist?" One of the films I'm planning to see at the Cannes Film Festival is Franck Khalfoun's Maniac remake, starring Elijah Wood as a deranged serial killer in New York. I recently discovered that Cannes put up an early trailer for Maniac on their website, but the encoding is messed up. I spent a while fixing this and trying to properly sync the audio, but it's missing the final few seconds of footage. That said, it's a very creepy trailer, with lots of nudity and raw uncensored violence, so watch out. But it does look very dark ...

Easily my favorite new show of the last television season was "New Girl," and it's not just because of the quirky charms of Zooey Deschanel. The series also has a phenomenal supporting cast making up her roommates. There's the hilarious Jake M. Johnson, who can be seen in Safety Not Guaranteed this summer, Lamorne Morris in his biggest TV role yet, and finally Max Greenfield, who steals plenty of scenes from the rest of the cast as Schmidt. Now the latter actor will be working with some great comedic talent on the big screen in the romantic comedy parody They ...

What's that? You haven't had enough of demon possession of children in horror films? Well, then you're in luck! The trailer for Ole Bornedal's new film The Possession from producer Sam Raimi and his Ghost House Pictures production banner has arrived. Normally films like this look so generic, but there's some pretty freaky imagery and epic music that somehow has this particular demonic horror thriller grabbing my attention. The presence of Jeffrey Dean Morgan certainly helps, but I think there's a bit of the same tone that made Drag Me to Hell so captivating and satisfying. Judge for yourself by ...

Now this sounds like a geriatric party I want to check out. Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro are already attached to the comedy Last Vegas from director Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure), and now a third veteran actor is being tossed into the mix. Deadline reports the incomparable Morgan Freeman is in negotiations to star in the film written by Dan Fogleman (Crazy Stupid Love, My Mother's Curse) and sounds like The Hangover for grandparents about a quartet of retired boomers who are called upon for a Vegas bachelor party by their friend, a ladies man finally settling down and ...

Aussie actor Joel Edgerton has been in front of the camera for awhile now. You may remember him as young Uncle Owen in Attack of the Clones, but his big break came in 2010 with David Michod's Aussie crime flick Animal Kingdom. Since then, he's gone on to lead movies like Warrior and The Thing, and now a press release reveals Edgerton will write and star in a police story called Felony. After a celebration with his fellow officers following the bust of a major gang, Edgerton's character accidentally runs a young biker off the road. As other officers arrive ...

Here's a bit of interesting casting that should have comic book fans scratching their heads a bit. Following in the footsteps of Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley and Rebecca Hall, The Grey and Shame star James Badge Dale has landed a supporting role in Iron Man 3. What's interesting is Variety reports his role is said to be Eric Savin, and in the comics he's a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army put in charge of Project: Ultra. After stepping on a land mine, cybernetic surgery is performed on him and he's resurrected as the cyborg Coldblood, though as far as ...

With an election year upon us, the educational system will certainly be a hot button issue for the presidential candidates, and just before Americans cast their votes, a film will put that very topic front and center. Won't Back Down is a new drama from Beastly director Daniel Barnz which follows two mothers from different backgrounds (Maggie Gyllanhaal and Viola Davis) who join forces to take on a failing public school system and institute a charter school for struggling children in the neighborhood, including their own. It looks a little melodramatic, but potentially very uplifting and even inspiring. Watch! ›››

Though her big break came as the creepy tituar lead in the horror film Orphan, more casual movie goers might recognize Isabelle Fuhrman as one of the more villainous tributes in The Hunger Games. Now Variety reports the young actress is set to return to horror in the lead role of David Gordon Green's long gestating remake of Dario Argento's remake of the 1977 horror film Suspiria. Over a year ago, Green wanted the film to be his next project, and now with the HBO series "Eastbound & Down" all wrapped up, he's making it happen with an eye towards ...

From delivering spectacular buddy comedies like Superbad and Paul, to the coming-of-age film Adventureland, director Greg Mottola has had a good run as a feature filmmaker. His next work will be seen on HBO as he directs the pilot for the Aaron Sorkin scripted series "The Newsroom," but he'll quickly get back into film as Variety reports Mottola is in early talks to adapt The Marriage Plot, based on the novel of the same name by Jeffrey Eugenides. It will take him back to a coming-of-age story as it follows a love triangle in the early 1980's when a female ...

It's been a little while since we've seen anything from action director extraordinaire John Woo, whose last film was split into the one-two punch of Red Cliff and Red Cliff 2 a few years ago. According to ComingSoon, the director of Face/Off and Mission: Impossible 2 has chosen his next film, an action-packed crime thriller called Day of the Beast, a remake of a 1963 Japanese film called Youth of the Beast. Set in Tokyo, the story follows a western outsider who gets caught in a turf war between old school Russian gangsters and a new breed of Yakuza. It ...

Time to squint and take a closer look! While Paul Thomas Anderson will not be appearing at the Cannes Film Festival this week with his new film The Master, he has instead decided to tease the film with a fun little first look on Cigarettes & Red Vines. The official PTA fan/news site was recently sent a few new photos and a message from the master himself, Mr. Anderson, giving us a very first look at a few frames of the film - in that exact form, as 65mm celluloid frames. "These shots include our lovely Negative Cutter, Simone, imported ...

Everyone knows right away if they like Wes Anderson and his films, or not. He has a very unique, original style and a story structure that he often repeats, but it almost always works in his favor. The same goes for Moonrise Kingdom, his latest film which is premiering in Cannes, a quirky and fun romantic story about two 12 year old kids falling in love for their first time. It's whimsical and amusing in only ways that Wes Anderson can truly deliver, but it doesn't really stand out amongst the rest of his work. While it certainly is fun ...

"This is not who I am, it's simply what I know." Verizon just released yet another new viral video for Ridley Scott's Prometheus, following the amazing TED2023 Talk with Peter Weyland and the David 8 android introduction from Michael Fassbender. This video, debuted on the Verizon FiOS Facebook and called "Quiet Eye", focuses on Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw, one of the crew on Prometheus who might be the one that reveals the location they travel to. This is one of the best story-focused viral campaigns in quite a while and they're wrapping up by adding even more mystery and ...

For those who caught some midnight screenings of The Dictator last night, a special treat was delivered in the form of a teaser trailer for Anchorman: The Legend Continues, the sequel to the 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. The script is still being written so that aforementioned teaser trailer was shot just to get the hype machine rolling, but the film will apparently follow the start of the 24-hour news cycle. Now we also have a teaser poster for the highly anticipated comedy sequel that doesn't need the faces of Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell ...

Sex sells, especially in Europe, there's no doubt about that. As I was walking back, I couldn't help (I mean, come on) but notice this new promo banner that had just been installed. Today is officially the first day of the Cannes Film Festival and construction/installation is being finished completely. Antiviral, the first film from David Cronenberg's son Brandon Cronenberg, is premiering in the festival line-up later this week, and it's a film that seems to be on everyone's mind, for the sake of curiosity more than anything. How will it turn out? What is it really about? This banner ...
